Glens Runners, a Force to Be Reckoned With at Race Over the Glen!

The 30th running of the iconic Race Over the Glen, expertly hosted by our neighbours Ballymena Runners, delivered its trademark mix of grit, gradient and glorious scenery. Glens Runners turned out in force, tackling roughly 400 metres of climbing across a twisting 10K route through Glenariff Forest Park. With steep ascents, fast descents and a biting winter chill, any lingering Christmas cobwebs were Glens Runners, a Force to Be Reckoned With at Race Over the Glen

In the men’s race, Jonny Steede put in a superb shift, narrowly missing the podium with a strong fourth‑place finish and taking the Vet 45 title in the process. Next Glens over the line John Marrs, Lee O’Boyle added to the haul with the V40 win, and powerful running from Mark Donaghy helped secure the Men’s Team Prize for the club.

The women’s race was a nail‑biter from the gun, with mere seconds separating the top three. Glens Runners’ own Niamh Marrs stormed home to claim third place. Glens ladies Kelly-ann mcAuley crossed the line to take the V35 category win, contributing to the Ladies Team Prize alongside teammates Rachael McLaughlin and Joanna Wheeler Connon.

And finally, special mention must go to the other standout performance of the day: the elite‑level dance moves emerging from the back of Jonny Steede’s packed—but warm and dry—campervan. A masterclass in post‑race recovery.
