St Patrick’s Day 2025 saw over five thousand runners ‘back for the Craic’ as the SPAR Craic 10k road race returned in its full green glory to the streets of Belfast.
The St Patrick’s Day race begins at City Hall ending via Falls Road and Botanic finishing at Ormeau Park. Kelly-Ann McAuley and Niamh Marrs with energy levels artificially inflated by energy drinks and old skool dance classics were on a mission to secure PBs. Thankfully, this proved a winning combination as they succeeded with PBs of 39:10 and 38:54 over the relatively flat route through the city with Kelly-Ann securing an impressive V35 category win. Sean Harvey also ran an impressive 48:12 so a great day out for the glens.
Due to some genius race scheduling Kelly-Ann and Niamh towed the start line again 6 days later at the Coleraine Campus. The tunes and energy drinks didn’t hit the same, having only come down from the previous caffeine high a few days earlier. Nevertheless, with tired legs and some cursing at the head-wind a podium was secured with Niamh in 2nd place and Kelly-Ann taking the overall V35 category win. Time for a much needed break, well 10 days until the next race.
