First out this weekend on Saturday morning were Declan McNaughton and Joanna Wheeler-Connon in the 46km Wicklow Eco Trail followed an hour later by Conan Brown and Naomi McCurry in the 30km alternative at the same event. Starting out from Bray and heading into the Wicklow Mountains there were strong performances as expected from this group with plenty of experience in mountain running. Decky covered the 46kms and 1700m climb in 5:06 with Joanna completing the same course in 5:36. Conan completed the 30km and 1200m climb in 3:41 and Naomi came home in a very impressive 3:07 to claim a 2nd place podium finish, an amazing if not unexpected accomplishment in what is always a strongly contested race.

Then to Sunday morning and a bit further afield to Berlin Marathon which Lucy O’Dell and Niamh Marrs had selected for another attempt at the distance. Neither ladies have anything to prove, having both posted amazing results in recent years and this one was no different. Finishing in 3:39 and 3:09 respectively these veterans of the marathon demonstrated they are still capable of times that any runner in their prime would be more than pleased with.
